If there’s one thing that defines summer on the Mediterranean coast, beyond the sun and the beach, it’s music. In this sense, Benicàssim has become one of the most important festival destinations in Europe. Every year, thousands of people are drawn here by a program that combines major international acts, culture, diversity and unique experiences by the sea.
At Hotel Bersoca, we know that festivals are part of the essence of this destination. That’s why, if you’re thinking about enjoying a different kind of summer, here are the main events you can experience.
Benicàssim Blues Festival: the festival that opens the summer
The Benicàssim Blues Festival, held from May 29 to 31, is one of the most special events of the early season. For three days, the town fills with talent, featuring a selection of artists from both the national and international scene.
Its aim is to bring blues music closer to all audiences, creating an experience where music blends with cultural and family-friendly activities. Artists such as Jessie Lee & The Alchemists and Lust’n’Found & Joan Pau Cumellas are among the names that have brought this festival to life.
A perfect plan if you’re looking for live music in a relaxed setting, without large crowds, and with that expressive touch so characteristic of blues.
FIB: the festival that turns Benicàssim into pure energy
You can’t talk about iconic festivals without mentioning the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB). Since 1995, this event has established itself as one of the most important festivals in Europe within the independent music scene.
Every summer, more than 45,000 people gather in Benicàssim to enjoy a lineup featuring some of the most relevant artists from both the national and international scene. This year, from July 16 to 18, FIB returns with names such as Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks, The Prodigy and La La Love You, among many others.
What makes FIB special is not only its music, but also its atmosphere. It is a meeting point for indie, pop and electronic music lovers, where the energy is felt both inside and outside the venue.
Rototom Sunsplash: culture, diversity and reggae
Rototom Sunsplash, held from August 16 to 22, is much more than a music festival: it is a unique cultural experience and the largest reggae gathering in Europe.
On the musical side, the level is exceptional, with artists such as Major Lazer, Shenseea and Queen Omega, among many other international reggae icons. It is a space where you can truly let yourself go with the music, which starts at sunset and continues into the night.
One of Rototom’s most distinctive features is its inclusive and family-friendly nature, with activities designed for children such as the “Magic World.” In addition, you will find debates, exhibitions, workshops of all kinds, African dance and capoeira.
For several days, Benicàssim becomes a place where reggae music coexists with cultural, social and educational activities.
Other festivals to complete the experience
Beyond the major music events, Benicàssim also offers cultural activities designed for the whole family, creating a diverse and enriching calendar throughout the season.
The Habaneras Festival, with more than 30 editions, brings together local groups in a unique setting such as the Pepe Falomir Amphitheatre, where traditional music is best enjoyed by the sea, in a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the Benicàssim Belle Époque, held in September, transforms the seafront promenade into a journey back in time, with historical recreations, exhibitions and cultural activities that recreate the elegance and charm of a past era.
