Columbretes Islands

Destination information

The Columbretes Islands are an essential excursion for nature and wildlife lovers. Located about 60 kilometres off the coast of Castellón and midway between the Balearic Islands and the Peninsula, these volcanic islands are considered one of the most ecologically valuable island areas in the Mediterranean. Formed by several islets and rocks that emerge from waters over 80 metres deep, they offer a unique and protected environment.

The archipelago is made up of four groups of islands: L’Illa Grossa, La Foradada, La Ferrera, and El Bergantín (Carallot). Currently, it is only possible to visit L’Illa Grossa, where the excursion runs from the harbour steps up to the lighthouse, passing the Visitors’ Centre, which houses an exhibition on human history and fishing in the area.

During the route, visitors can discover the richness of its flora and fauna: endemic seabirds, lizards, insects, and native plants, making the experience an unforgettable walk through one of the most fascinating corners of the Mediterranean.
